Taksim Square is where you can find shopping centers, restaurants, baklava shops and popular hotels. Originally, the place was a collection point for the main water lines from north of Istanbul and then branched off to different parts of the city. It was given the name Taksim for that reason, as it means “division”.
Today, the place is vibrant and full of life even late after midnight. It is a hub for transportation, and is also very popular public place for major events like new year, parades, and other events.
It is also the home for Ataturk Cultural Center, which is an opera house as well.
